Editor's Letter February 2012

Dear Reader,

Families come in all different shapes and sizes. And so do dads. Some dad’s-to-be are married when the words ‘I’m pregnant’ come bubbling out. Some dad’s-to-be hold trembling crying girlfriends when the same words are whispered. Some dad’s are mere children themselves whilst others are in their 50’s. Some dad’s run away and some dad’s don’t. Some dad’s parent children who aren’t biologically theirs, but their love is steadfast and strong. Tum2Mom wishes to inspire all dads’ to be the best that they can be. Read Abraham Lincoln’s letter he wrote to his son’s school teacher, these insightful words stand the test of time.

Despite the fact that only women can become pregnant, men are expectant too. Dads-to-be are not only essential members of the baby making team; but share in the excitement, responsibilities and worries of pregnancy. Although some men may feel that they are merely “glorified sperm donors”, they play an invaluable role in caring for and supporting their spouse, and are also nurturers of their unborn child. If you are an expectant dad, read our article on the role you can play during your partner’s pregnancy.

There is a moment in every new father’s life when he realizes that he is a dad, that his life is irrevocably changed and that there are new pressures, responsibilities and expectations to live up to. Tum2Mom takes a look at the feelings new dads might experience.

And we have some wonderful parenting tips and tricks for dads to pull out of the hat when parenting a toddler.

If you are a new dad and would like to share your experiences with us, answer a few questions and stand a chance to win a book written especially with dads in mind.

Yours in parenting,

Janine & Elizabeth
